Social Media For Virtual Assistants

Social Media For Virtual Assistants

 By Loretta Oliver

As a virtual assistant, are you using social media to promote your business and find new clients? Here are some quick tips on how to make social media work for you...

Facebook
Set up a Facebook page for your business and post updates, pictures, motivational quotes, ask questions, and let people know about your services and how you can help them.

As people comment on your statuses or like them, they will show up in their friends' news feeds. You can also ask people to "share" your status updates. This is a great way to introduce yourself to a new audience and gain some new customers.

Twitter
If you haven't set up a Twitter account yet, set one up ASAP. Start following people that you would like as potential clients and join in the conversation.

Twitter is a great place to strike up a conversation and meet people. You can also post the links to the blog posts you've written, talk about the services you offer and even offer special sales and promotions.

Linked In
If you want to work with a more professional customer base, Linked In may be your best bet. While it's still "social networking," this is a more professional site than other social media sites.

You may be able to be more casual on Twitter or Facebook and talk about your favorite television shows, but that won't pass on Linked In. Remember - this is where you wear your "suit," while you wear "jeans" on the other sites.

Pinterest
Pinterest may be the new kid on the block when it comes to social media sites, but it has also been the fastest growing one, yet!
Yes, it is full of craft ideas and recipes - but that's not all this site has to offer.
You can 'pin" the blog posts that you write onto this site.

Other people will like them and "re-pin" to their own boards, which allows their followers to see them. Just remember, you have to have really good graphics, as Pinterest is all about the visuals!
Think about info graphics, charts, quotes, and other attention grabbing graphics.

Spend Your Time, Don't Waste Your Time
You may be wondering how much time you should be spending on these social media sites. Don't let it overwhelm you. Spend the amount of time that you have. You don't have to be on every site, all day long every day.

Test it out and make sure you're hanging out where your prospective clients are spending their time. If you realize that your crowd isn't hanging out on Pinterest then there's no reason to focus your efforts there.
